Graveyard

The mine car now emerges into the open air and enters a small enclosed graveyard scene, where passengers notice an old horse-drawn hearse. Inside the hearse of course is a coffin, the occupant of which raises the lid about six inches, just enough to expose the skeletal hand and skull inside, and then slams the lid shut again. Notice the skeleton of the horse on the far right side of the photo, hitched to the hearse. In the foreground (bottom, center) a crooked wooden headstone casts its shadow upon the ground.. Behind the hearse we see a wooden shack, facing away in the photo. This is the outhouse, which will be encountered later in the ride following the visit to the blacksmith's shop. Needless to say, the graveyard tableau was especially effective at night. The desolation of the graveyard scene ends as we suddenly enter another building.
