Tub scene
After the graveyard scene, the mine car passengers are treated to the sight of a Dutchman ghost practicing good personal hygiene. The right arm of the skeleton is animated to make it appear that the miner is scrubbing himself with a sponge. Dick Kraus also added to this scene a "floating" water faucet. The faucet was obviously not connected with any sort of pipe, just hovering in mid-air, but water would flow freely and continuously from the fixture. This was a very clever illusion that today is fairly common at trade show booths and can be bought at many novelty stores, but in its earliest days it was a remarkable piece of engineering. Don't look for it in these photos, however, as it was added later. After the bathtub scene, the passengers come upon a rather bizarre barber shop.
